Issue
When you use SMART Notebook software collaborative learning software on Windows operating systems to add annotations such as ink, objects, or pictures they will not appear on the whiteboard area but are visible only on the thumbnail of the page.
Symptoms
Any annotations added to the whiteboard area do not appear and are only visible on the thumbnail of the page. Other symptoms include the whiteboard area showing through to your desktop or the whiteboard area appearing black.
Cause
Some video card graphics processing unit (GPU) chipsets embedded in your system require an updated driver for SMART Notebook software to properly function.

Affected GPUs include:
  • Chipset with drivers version 8.15.10.1749 or earlier
  • Intel G43 Express chipset with drivers version 8.15.10.1892 or earlier
  • Intel G45 Express chipset with drivers version 8.15.101749 or earlier
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 chipset with drivers version 8.16.11.8880 or earlier
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD chipset with drivers version 8.16.11.8880 or earlier
  • Intel Q43 Express chipset with drivers 8.15.10.1749 or earlier
  • Intel Q45 Express chipset with drivers 8.15.10.1749 or earlier
  • Mobile Intel 4 Series Express chipset with drivers 8.15.10.1892 or earlier
Solution
Contact the vendor of your computer or your system administrator for an update.

Before you begin, help SMART identify the affected GPUs by sharing some information about your computer. Fill out the simple web form (bit.ly/smartgpu).

Option 1

Update the drivers using the Intel's Driver Update Utility.
  1. Go to downloadcenter.intel.com/.
  2. Click Update Drivers under Intel Driver Update Utility.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Option 2

Update the drivers from the computer manufacture's website.
  1. Click Start and type dxdiag in the search field. Press Enter
    If prompted, click Yes.
    The Direct X Diagnostic Tool appears.
  2. In the System tab, System Model lists the make and model of your computer.
  3. Using a search engine, enter the make and model of your computer + drivers, e.g., HP Compaq dc7900 Small Form Factor drivers.
  4. Install the graphics card driver package available on the manufacturer/s website for your computer.
